Reading:  Read "Carousel of Dreams" w/parent and get signature ; also, compose 5 questions/answers (if you didn't complete yesterday)

Math: Complete Chapter 7 review on pg. 212-213; TEST ON THURSDAY!!!


Science:  Finish up soil experiment/map

Morningside @ 2:00 for our Valentine's Party!!!

Homework Happenings for Monday, February 14th

Spelling:  Copy words three times each, once in cursive

Reading:  Read "Carousel of Dreams"  Parents sign
                  WB pg. 163;
           Write 5 questions/answers from story (Tuesday's assignment)*

Math:  Review 2-digit multiplication problems with regrouping!!! Test on Wednesday.



*We will be at the Carson Center  Tuesday morning, so I made the assignment today
Valentine's Day Party today!  Tomorrow afternoon, we go to Morningside to share Valentines we made in class with our friends :)

        Well, it has been a looooooong week for HLOE students and staff.  Hope everyone has enjoyed time in the snow and warm and snuggly inside this week!  We are supposed to get a big warmup this weekend, so I hope to see all your shining faces on Monday morning.  A couple of items to remember as we start our week of February 14-18:

• Monday-Valentine's Day parties at school 2:30-3:00; students may check out with a parent after party; we will exchange Valentines at that time
• Tuesday-field trip to Carson Center to see "We the People" at 9:30 am; back in time for lunch
• Thursday-trip to Morningside for a Valentine celebration with our friends @ 2:00

• Feb. 14-Valentine's Day parties @ 2:30 pm   Children may be checked out after party w/o a tardy
• Feb. 15-Carson Center "We the People" @ 9:30 am      2:00  Morningside Valentine's Day party

Ask you child about what it takes to be a good leader.  We have started Leadership classes each Friday with Ms. Reese.  It was so much fun!!!

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Feb. 3rd

Spelling:  If you did not pass the "Spelling City" test today with 100%, study to retake it tomorrow.

Language:  Daily Oral Language #16; study for test.

Math:  Multiplication with 3 digits:  WB 135-136

Science:  Lesson 4 "Water/Air Resources"  3 vocab. definitions; no HW

Wednesday Happenings

    This is a no homework night.  However, we have some neat things going on in the classroom!  Today, we will go to the science lab, to become "Rock Hounds"!  We will explore and classify many different kinds of rocks as we test their properties.  Next week, we plan on going back to the lab and doing some tests with different minerals.  Because of the lab work, the Science test will be put off until next week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday.  I will post the study guide on my blog later today.

     Don't forget that we go to the computer lab tomorrow, so brush up on spelling words for the "Spelling City" pretest.  We will also take the AR test ov

USING EARTH’S RESOURCES

1.    Sulfur is a type of mineral.

2.    The burning of fossil fuels causes pollution.

3.    Using resources wisely is called conservation.

4.    Coal is an example of a nonrenewable resource that cannot be easily replaced.

5.    Water is an example of a renewable resource that can be used again and again.

6.    Sandstone is an example of a sedimentary rock.

7.    The remains or traces of something that lived long ago are fossils.

8.    Soil is an example of a natural resource.

9.    Magma cools slowly and then hardens into an igneous rock.

10.                       Energy that is used in homes and in cars is called fuel.

11.                       Groundwater is water that is held in rocks and soil below the ground.

12.                       Luster is the mineral property that is identified by how light bounced off of it.

13.                       Diamonds, rubies and topaz are examples of gems.

14.                       Humus soaks up rainwater, keeps the soil moist and adds nutrients.

15.                       Imprints are impressions that living things leave behind in the mud.

16.                       Cactus could grow well in sandy soil because it doesn’t need much water, and can grow well in dry soil.   We know that sandy soil is made up of small grains of sand that don’t hold water as well as other types of soil.
