Homework Happenings for Thursday, Jan. 20th

    We are on a "snow schedule" for tonight.  Since we were on an abbreviated day today.  We finished up:

  1. AR test on "My Very Own Room"
  2. Spelling test on spelling city
  3. Brain Pop, Jr. "Rocks and Minerals"
  4. We started our Chapter Review on C. 6 for math.  Test will be on the day we return.
We have postponed Morningside until next Thursday, Jan. 27th.
Be safe and build a snowman!!!!

Homework Happenings for Wednesday, January 19th

   Even though this is a "no homework" night,  we are working on a "Snow Plan" in case we have inclement weather Thursday or Friday.  

Spelling:  completed WS for seat work today; study for the test!
Reading:  we completed a story map over the plot of "My Very Own Room"; be prepared to take  
                  AR test.
Math:  we completed lesson 7 over "Relating multiplication and division groups"; the test will be Friday (or Monday, if we have snow); the Chapter Review (pp 184-186) must be completed  before then; either tonight or tomorrow or tomorrow night.
Science:  Finish Lesson 1 in Chapter 6; 6 vocabulary words to define.  Continue to read on Lesson 2 if we are out.

Spelling:  Copy spelling words three times each; once in cursive

Reading:  Read "My Very Own Room" at home; have parents to sign reading sheet.  Complete Reading WB pg. 139-140

Math:  Relating multiplication and division:  Complete WB 113-114
            Took the 10's test.  ALL multiplication tests must be taken/passed by this Friday!!

Science:  Chapter 6: Lesson 1  "Rocks and Minerals"  Copy 6 vocabulary words and read/discuss lesson.

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Jan. 13th

Spelling:  study for spelling test, unless you made a 100% on Spelling City today

Language:  Grammar (irregular verbs) WB 117-118; Study for DOL #`13 test

Math:  We took the nine fact test and almost all my students have passed!!!  If you need to take it over, we will have a "ketchup day" for multiplication tomorrow.

Science:  Study for our Chapter 5 test; make sure all vocabulary definitions are completed.

         that you have passed your facts (1-10) by then! ********

Homework Happenings for Wednesday, Jan. 12th

No specific homework for tonight.  Have your child study for the Spelling City pretest tomorrow.  Also,
with all the special strategies we have learned about the nines (ask your son/daughter!),  we are going to take the 9 multiplication test tomorrow.  Please review them over those facts.

Don't forget.......our multiplication ice cream sundae celebration is set for the afternoon of  Friday, January 21st.  If you would like to help us, please let me know by email or writing in your child's agenda.

Science, Chapter 5 test is still on for Friday.  Continue to review the vocabulary definitions, study guide and the volcano and earth layer diagram worksheets!

Study Guide for Chapter 5 study guide


1.  The center of the earth is the core.
2.  Breaking down rocks into smaller pieces is a slow proves called weathering.
3.  Rock that is melted and flows onto Earth’s surface is called lava.
4.  An earthquake is the sudden movement of rocks on Earth’s crust.
5.  Earth’s outermost layer is called the crust.
6.  The wearing away of rocks is erosion.
7.  The layer below Earth’s crust is the mantle.
8.  Melted rock that is found beneath Earth’s mantle is called magma.
9.  Land features, such as plains and valleys are classified landforms.
10.  A volcano is a mountain that builds up around an opening in Earth’s crusts.
11.  Glaciers cause the Earth’s surface to change slowly.
12.  A landslide is caused by gravity pulling rocks and soil rapidly downhill.
13.  More than half of Earth’s surface is covered by water.
14.  Water, glaciers and wind can cause erosion.
15. The seven large areas lf land found on Earth are called continents.
16.  Be able to explain how volcanoes can both destroy and create landforms.

                Write 5 questions/answers for our pop quiz tomorrow!

No Math today, due to our shortened snow day.  Tomorrow we will begin our 9 facts.

Language:  Daily Oral Language #13, sent. 4-5

Science:  Review earthquakes and volcanoes.  Fill out volcano diagram and complete WB 89-90 for Homework.  Test will be Friday.  Start reviewing the study guide!!

Homework Happenings for Monday, January 10th

Spelling:  Homophones; write the spelling words 3 times each

Reading:  "Gorilla Garden"  Vocabulary WB133-134

Language:  DOL #13  sentences 1-3

Math:  Took the 8's test today.  Complete WB 105-106; Some of our students have completed ALL the multiplication times tests.  Shout out to them!!!  We will begin our study of our 9 facts tomorrow.  Test will probably be Thursday.

Science:  Chapter 5, Lesson 2 :"Earthquakes and Volcanoes"
*****Extra Credit******
If your child is interested, there are some great project ideas in our book for displaying 1)layers of the earth, 2) earthquakes, or 3) volcanoes.  Some have expressed interest in completing one for extra credit.  If your student wants to make and present any of these ideas for extra credit, the deadline is next Friday, Jan. 21st.

Homework Happenings for Friday, January 7h

Usually a no Homework night, we will need to study for the 8 fact test on Monday.  Many of our friends have already finished up ALL of the multiplication facts, and they have "built" a tasty banana split!  We will be celebrating with the real thing.....banana ice cream sundaes later this month!!!!!!  The cutoff for our multiplication fact tests will be Friday, January 21st.  Remember, practice memorizing and learning the strategies for passing our tests!

Report cards for the 2nd nine weeks go home today.  Please remember to return the envelope, signed, by Monday.

Frankfort payments ($50) are due February 1st!!

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Jan. 6th

Spelling:  Everyone needs to study for our spelling test.  We were not able to take the test on "Spelling City" this week in the lab.

Math:  Math book pg. 167 (1-8) and write your 8 facts two times each in math notebook.
We took our 7 test today and 88% passed!!!  We now move on the the 8 facts.  Study/review them today and the weekend.  Test is on Monday.  Remember, you may take them on "Math Magician" and if you pass with 100%, have your parents to write me a note on your certificate and turn in.

Science:  Chapter 5, Lesson 1 "Earth's Features"  WB 105  Write out the 6 vocabulary words and definitions

Homework Happenings for Wednesday, January 5th

This is usually a "no homework" night, but we DO need to study and be prepared to take our 7 multiplication test tomorrow.  Your child may either take it in the computer lab on "Math Magician" and print out the certificate, or take it with us in the classroom.

We are in desperate need of pencils!  We have run out of our class supply.  Many of our students are no longer bringing pencils, so we are depleting our classroom set.  If you are out at Dollar Store, Wal Mart or other places, please remember to pick up some pencils.

Homework Happenings for Tuesday, January 4th

Spelling:     Soft /g/ and soft /c/ words-Write the words 3 times each

Reading:    Read "Washington Weed Whackers" in peacock book.  Have parents sign reading paper.
                    Complete Reading WB pg. 125/126

Math:     Review strategies we use for solving multiplication problems.  Cut out and study the 7 facts.  Test
                  over the facts on Thursday.  Remember... you may work ahead on multiplication facts by logging onto www.multiplication.com and going to "Math Magician" and take the timed tests, without help.  If you pass, print up the certificate and have a parent sign it , saying you have taken w/o help.  That will count for your test!

Science:     No science today.  We celebrated our Class AR goal of 312 points for the 9 weeks, with a pajama Party and extra reading time!  Back to science and Chapter 5 tomorrow.
