Homework Happenings for Wednesday, November 30th

Good Afternoon, Everyone! This is a no HW night, but I wanted to update our activities for the upcoming weeks. Sorry there was no blog last night; I was sick and not at school, so I was not sure of what the sub would cover. Most students finished up the work in class.

Friday is our big Book Fair Kickoff!!!! Students will be able to preview on Friday to pick out favorite titles. We will then return next Wednesday, Dec. 7th to shop. Please remember to send money/check with your child on that day.

Today, we began planning for our Native American projects. The students were able to do some research on their tribe. We will be completing a planning sheet to help with supplies, materials, information, etc to help with their presentation. Next week, we will begin presenting our projects. They are due on Friday, Dec. 9th. Your child may bring them in any day up til then, though. Some students have not returned the Project signature sheet with their Tribe choice. Please get them in tomorrow!

Next week, we have a busy week with N. American projects, MAPs testing, and On Demand Writing Week. Therefore, we will NOT have a regular reading story or spelling list. We will read stories that are about Native Americans that are AR.

Here are some pictures from our visit to the 1st grade Christmas Mall:

******Your child will be bringing home a MAPS sheet, explaining their scores on our MAPS test in reading, math and language that we took earlier this fall. It will show their high and low scores in each area. I have conferenced with each child, and we have made some goals for each subject. Please look over the goals with your child, sign it on the back and return. Many of the activities are internet based and they can be completed at home! Please contact me if you have any questions. We will take the MAPS assessment again in December and then in May to check progress.********

Homework Happenings for Monday, November 21st

There is no homework for this evening! We are not starting a new story or working on spelling this week. We will use these two days to introduce our Native American unit. Parents, please watch for the letter that will explain our big Native American project. More news to come on that! Each student will need to return the bottom portion of the letter, signed. Here is one website that contains some good ideas for projects.

Some students will be bringing home their bar modeling "Group" test that we completed last Friday. If your child made below a 74%, they have an opportunity to correct their mistakes and return for credit. I will average in the modified score with their original grade. Many of the mistakes were simply addition/subtraction mistakes :)

I wish all of you a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!!
