Homework Happenings for Monday, Dec. 17th

Christmas is almost here, and we are winding down from our first half of the school year!! We are NOT having a spelling list, reading story, or DOLs this week, due to the short time and all the holiday activities we will be having. Math: Chapter Review pp. 212-213 and study for Chpt 7 test tomorrow! Social Studies: We will begin our Native American project presentations today. I can't wait to see all the creative information your children will share with us today! DOn't forget that for each day a project is late being turned in, a letter grade will be deducted. Tomorrow we go to Morningside for our Christmas party with our friends. I have told the students that they may bring a "Santa" or "elf" cap to wear when we go over there, if they wish. We will be sharing Christmas carols and homemade cards with the residents.

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Dec. 13th

Math: Complete WB 135-136; we are looking at a math test over chpt 7 (large multiplication problems) on Tuesday of next week! Reading: Finish up Reading assessment on "What Do Illustrators Do?" Tomorrow is our "Illustrators Workshop": some of our students are taking on the role of "illustrator" and presenting a storyboard of a story! This is simply voluntary. Study Spelling words and turn in Tic Tac Toe work. ***Next Tuesday is our Morningside Christmas Party. We will be singing Christmas carols for our friends and presenting them with homemade cards. If your child would like to bring a Santa or Elf hat to wear, that would be fine! We want to be festive for our friends!!****

Sorry there was no post yesterday. I was out, as are many of my students! I hope we can get well for all the activities coming up at HLOE in the next week! Remember, if your child is running a temp, PLEASE keep them home until they are fever free! The flu is running through our school! Spelling: Continue to work on Spelling Tic Tac Toe. Both activities (#1 and #3) are due on Friday. Reading: Read "WHat Do Illustrators Do?" at home. Complete the trifold. Social Studies: Remember that projects are due on MONDAY, DEC 17th. Homework Happenings for Monday, Dec. 3rd

Math: Division WB 115-116 **Test on Wednesday!** Spelling: Begin "Story Time!" Due: Wednesday * Social Studies: Finish Native American Tribe Chart *We are introducing a new spelling activity to use for helping with our weekly spelling words. "Tic Tac Toe spelling" will allow your child some choices in what activities they want to complete to show their knowledge of their weekly spelling words. These next weeks before Christmas, I will be introducing some of the activity choices they may try. After Christmas, they will choose three (3) to complete on their own by Thursday. They will still take the pretest on Thursday and the test on Friday.

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Nov. 29th

Study Spelling and DOL sentences for tests. Study for multiplication timed tests. We have some friends who are working "above and beyond" on their facts! They are taking their ten facts. Yoo Hoo!! Remember that the deadline for earning ice cream sundae "ingredients" is next Friday. Tonight is Family Movie Night @ 6:00pm. Come dressed in your pajamas to enjoy a movie and popcorn! Book Store will also be open from 4:00-6:00 for shopping. Many of your children are missing crayons/colored pencils and scissors. We use these on many of our Social Studies assignments i.e.map and globe skills. Please replace any of these items for your child so they can be prepared at school.

Our Chpt 4 test will be on Monday. ****BLOG BUSTER**** We have been learning about various geometric shapes and their names. We have identified 6, 7, and 8 sided figures. Can you do some research to find the names of a 10-sided geometric shape? How about 12 sides?? Any others? Parent Help???? We will be needing some parents to help with our ice cream/banana split celebration coming up in early December. We will supply the sweet ingredients; we just need some help scooping it up! Welcome back after our 4-day weekend!! Math: Even though it is not a homework night, we are beginning our multiplication times tests! Tomorrow, your child will be tested over the 3 facts. They will take a 60-sec, test over the three facts, 0-9. Today, we looked for patterns and practiced a song to help them remember. (Have them hum it!). Please review them on accuracy and speed. Then, we will move on to the 4 facts. You may visit multiplication.com website to see some neat, fun ways to review these facts! Also, IXL will have some practice also. Science: Be sure to finish up your ecosystem poster.

Instead, we will take grades from our homework and projects (food chain, ecosystem drawing, etc) Don't forget that we are going to the Carson Center to see "We the People" at 11:00 am. We will be back after lunch time, so we will eat in the room. Wednesday is usually not a Homework night, but I wanted to make you aware that we are having a math test tomorrow over chpt 1: Numbers to 10,000. The students have made their own study guide from the chapter review. They will be bringing home the textbook and journal to look over their notes. You can help by reviewing some of the problems from the chapter. We did a formal review today, and they did very well! Thanks! Good Afternoon! Our internet has been out today at HLOE, so this posting is a little late. Good start to the week today. Here is our Homework for the evening: Spelling: Write words 3 times each. I also sent home a list of all our spelling lists for the entire 9 weeks. You may keep that at home as a reference. we will take a pretest on Thursday in the computer lab on "Spelling City" (if the internet is back up!). Only those not scoring 100% will take it on Friday. ***Blog Buster*** Today, we began in science talking about living and nonliving things. We discussed that only plants can make their own food. Can you name that process and explain how that works? Look it up :)

Homework Happenings for Thursday, Aug. 9th

It's finally here!! Our first successful day at HLOE as new 3rd graders! Our day was full of rules, stories, laughter, sharing and fun. Here is what to have prepared for tomorrow as homework: "3 Things in a Bag" Your child brought home a paper sack to decorate with their name and any other designs they wish. They need to then fill it with 3 items that most tell us about themselves. Remember: only one photograph please! Also, remember to ask your parents' permission before taking any items such as electronic things. We will share these tomorrow.

Before School Happenings

Greetings, new Third Graders! I am busy working in my room this week, getting things ready for our start to the school year. I hope by now, you have received my welcome postcard. Make note of our night time registration next Thursday, August 2nd at 5:30-7:00 pm in the HLOE gym. We will have all forms ready for your parents to fill out, along with opportunities to pay school fees and purchase lunch accounts for the upcoming year. As many of you know, tomorrow is the start of the 2012 London Summer Olympics and that will be our class theme to start off our year! I have been busy decorating a special board in our room with Olympic pictures and sports information for us to view. The Games will go on through August 12th, so we will have a chance to report on our favorite events when we all come together on the 9th. You can also contribute to our bulletin board by bringing in favorite clippings from websites, magazines, or newspapers of what you have been watching concerning the Olympic Games. Due to MAPs testing, there is no spelling test, DOL test or reading assessment. ALL students are responsible for taking the AR quiz over their selected AR story for the week. Next Thursday, we begin the K-Prep state mandated test. This will run through the following Wednesday. We will not have specific HW assignments during that time. We will continue with Science lessons, but all work will be done IN CLASS!

We are finishing up our end of the year MAPs testing this week. Monday, we will take the reading test and Thursday, the math test.

Because we are finished with our reading series, we will not have any spelling lists this week. I will be reviewing various spelling skills in review worksheets in class. There will be no spelling test this week.

We are giving the students "free choice" in their AR reading this week. I will be pulling out the old McGraw-Hill reading textbooks for the students to locate a story of their own choosing to read both at school and at home. They will be responsible for completing the review questions at the end of the story and taking the AR test sometime during the week. Your child will write the title on their reading log for you to sign off on for Tuesday night's homework.

****We are combining our DOL lessons with a writing lesson this week. We will be writing a 5 paragraph article on our trip to Frankfort. Today, we copied and edited our introductory paragraph. Each day, we will take one aspect of our tour and write a paragraph about the things we saw, being sure to correct any punctation or grammar mistakes along the way. Their homework on Thursday night will be to recopy the Frankfort article on notebook paper in their BEST handwriting. I will take both a language and Social Studies grade on this writing piece!*****

THis is our last Morningside visit on Thursday for the year. I have told the students I will have cardstock paper out if they would like to make a card for their Morningside friend, telling them how much we have enjoyed getting to know them!

Homework Happenings for Tuesday, January 24th

Reading: Read "Here's My Dollar" at home with an adult. Be sure to have them sign your reading log. Finish up your comprehension trifold.

Math: Study the three multiplication facts. Yesterday, we began "building" our ice cream sundaes with our knowledge of our multiplication facts. Every 2-3 days, we will take a multiplication timed test over the math facts to test for master,starting with the 2 facts. If they make 100% on the facts assessed, they get to add an ingredient to their Ice Cream creation! If they don't pass, they can take their sheet home to study and take again. Please help your child to learn these facts to mastery! So far, we have all taken our x2 facts test. All but 3 passed, so the others will take over today. Also, remember to log on to AR and practice all facts with "Facts in a Flash", the new program that we are using school-wide.
